The SFODA orphanage in Phnom Penh is a long-dated friend of our organisation. It hosts 45 children and teenagers in difficult conditions, being the structure located on the Tonlesap river. The seasonal flood cover the shanties where children eat and sleep for a longer part of the year and a road cuts the orphanage area in two.
The conditions under which they live are unacceptable for our European standards. If you had children too, your heart would ache seeing how they are living without even the consolation of a maternal embrace. Yet the smile with which theywelcome and greet us, the Joie de vivre that despite everything we can see in their eyes, are a panacea for our soul. They make you reflect on the true meaning of life and wonder about the right way to help them.
What we have been able to do for them so far is very little. We brought only fresh fruit, school supplies, shoes, clothes. Hoping to be able to do more in the future, we remain indebted to them for the great life lesson that we have been given.
